We’ve been delighted to be working with Anthony Nolan to promote their donor register. Over the past few weeks we’ve visited Birmingham and London with TV presenter and writer Hardeep Singh Kohli in a quest to sign up more potential donors who could save a life if they are a match for someone with leukemia. It’s been incredible to see the reaction of the public, and we’re incredibly grateful to Anthony Nolan and our friends at Albion for asking us to be involved. You can find out more at www.anthonynolan.org/manonamission. Why not think about signing up yourself? You could save someone’s life.

We’re always on the look out for bright sparks who might make a good addition to the Seventeen team. As part of our build up to some of the major projects we’re working on in 2012, we’re now interested in talking to anyone who might be interested in joining us at a junior level, initially as an intern.

These roles would suit recent graduates though a degree isn’t the be all and end all – we’re looking for sharp, confident candidates who combine a precise, analytical approach with creative flair and vision. Of course, you’ll know all about our sustainable approach and while we’re not expecting anyone to have a PHD in environmental science, a personal interest in sustainable issues is essential.

We pay all our interns, and while you won’t make your first million you will be a valued member of the team. In the first instance we are looking for candidates who can work full time for at least six weeks. Beyond that period we’ll consider extending your contract on a more permanent basis.

Interested? Drop us a line with your CV and a short covering letter outlining a recent event which you think would have benefited from a more sustainable approach. Send it to Andrew – andrew@seventeenevents.co.uk.

Seventeen are delighted to have managed the exclusive reception for the announcement of the Bevins Prize last night (Tuesday 9th November). The event took place in the luxurious and sustainable surroundings of Quintessentially Soho at the House of St Barnabas. The award for outstanding investigate journalism is given in memory of the late Tony Bevins, and was won this year by Clare Sambrook for her End Child Detention Now campaign.

Guests at the event included high profile journalists and politicians such as Andrew Marr, Henry Porter, John Sergeant and Adam Boulton.

Seventeen were delighted to have the opportunity to work with Quintessentially Soho at the House of St Barnabas as the venue shares so many of the agency’s sustainable ideals. The space is a not-for-profit members club raising funds for the House of St Barnabas charity.

It has been an exciting and worthwhile event for Seventeen. We have managed all aspects of the prize, from appointing the judging panel, to organising the event. We hope that the profile of this prize will assist Clare in her important campaign for social justice.

It’s that time again. We are now planning the Sustainable Events Summit 2011 and we’re looking forward to building on the work of previous years to make this the most engaging, practical and inspiring summit yet.

This year we want to broaden our reach to include contributors from beyond our current networks. For the first time, we are asking for submissions of potential case studies of sustainable events which we can showcase at the summit. In previous years case studies have included the premiere of “Age of Stupid,” presentations from LOCOG and an introduction to the work of RockCorps.

Do you have a suggestion for a speaker or contributor for 2011? Do you have an inspiring story to tell which would help delegates to understand the practical steps you have taken towards greater sustainability? Then we want to hear from you.

Drop us a line with:

– Your contact information;
– A brief (200 words max) summary of your presentation;
– Any other information you think we should be aware of.

Send your suggestions and submissions to Andrew Williams, andrew@seventeenevents.co.uk.

The Sustainable Events Summit 2011 will take place in central London in spring next year. We’ll be updating the summit website soon, but for now if you want to check out footage from the 2010 event along with the programme and speakers, head to www.sustainableeventssummit.com.

After a finding a bag of dried chickpeas which I think must’ve been in my cupboard since University (a long time ago), I decided it was time to make humus, and it is lovely:
200g/7oz canned chickpeas (or the dried type which you need to soak overnight and cook)
2 tbsp lemon juice or more
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 tsp ground cumin
Salt
100ml/3½fl oz tahini (sesame seed paste) optional
4 tbsp water
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 tsp paprika

All ground up in blitzer, easy!

We would like to announce the new appointment of a new Sales & Marketing Executive to support the company’s marketing & expansion strategy for 2010.

Heather Gregg has joined the team to work closely with us in implementing a comprehensive business development plan and marketing strategy for all of our work.

Heather comes with an eight year background in the music industry with expertise in retail marketing, sales and distribution. She previously spent four years working as a Label Manager at PIAS UK, one of the UK’s leading independent music distribution & marketing companies where she managed a broad selection of key independent music labels within the PIAS UK roster. Prior to this she worked as a National Accounts Manager with Amato distribution and was with them for 4 years.

Heather said about the new appointment “I am so proud to be part of the Seventeen team and represent their values. Their creative approach to event management and sustainability is really inspiring and makes total business sense – the potential for this way of working in everyday business is huge and essential. I’m looking forward to spreading the word, and the plans for growing the business in 2010 and beyond. Being conscious of the effects we have on the world we live in is an everyday thing for me and am excited I will be able to cycle to the Seventeen office at Container City from my East London home!”

Seventeen Events’ Managing Director, Andrew Williams, added, “Heather brings a wealth of expertise and enthusiasm to this role and I’m confident she will make a huge contribution to the development of Seventeen in 2010. Heather’s passion for sustainability and creative approach to sales and marketing make her an asset to the office and I know she is looking forward to meeting many of our industry colleagues over the next few months.”

We partnered up with West London’s impressive Chiswick Park’s Enjoy Work office complex to organise ‘Eco Create’ on Friday 25th June, a day of inspirational, creative, eco craft activities for staff from the park’s resident companies including Disney, Foxton’s and Starbucks. This is the first time we’ve worked with the business park, to create this event as part of a series of lunchtime activity days running over the summer for Enjoy Work.

Activities, which took place in Yurts specially erected for the day in the grounds of Chiswick Park, were all selected to encourage guests to reuse, recycle and revamp. These included candle making using soya wax and natural essences with old teacups as the holders and a Tshirt screen printing workshop using fairtrade and organic cotton tshirts with non toxic printing paints. There was also Dragon’s Den winner Max MacMurdo from Reestore who held an eco engineering challenge to make a windturbine from household rubbish.

The brilliant Wapping Project is host to another thought provoking, stimulating art installation in its basement gallery space. The Chorus experience, which runs until 18th July, is a series of swinging pendulums each with their own built-in soundtrack. As you walk under each pendulum you hear its sound emanate directly above you, which can range from sharp rhythmic sneezes to beautiful searing violin strings. Each pendulum contains a circular light which changes and flashes according to the soundtrack. The overall impact is stunning – more like a performance than an art installation.

I’d also highly recommend the food at the Wapping Project if all that art makes you hungry!
