We launched this fantastic event last year. Initially conceived as a one-off, it has now established itself as a regular date in the University’s calendar. The idea of the event is to showcase the University as a resource for local people, and somewhere that should be at the heart of the community. The centrepiece of the event is the 1000m2 of real turf we laid in the car park of the University and along Keyworth and Ontario Street. After the event the grass was recycled to be laid in Southwark Parks.
The day was launched by Vice Chancellor Deian Hopkin and Mayor Bob Skelly. The “best stall” competition was judged by local MP Simon Hughes. Among the fantastic entertainment on the day was the South London Jazz Orchestra, Kinetica Bloco and Size Nine.
