Congratulations to Andrew for being selected as one of 15 London Leaders for 2011. See press release below for the lowdown…

The “London Leaders” for 2011 were announced on Wednesday 23 March, with the events industry represented by Andrew Williams, MD of Seventeen Events. Now in its fourth year, the programme has already supported over 40 London Leaders. To date, their accomplishments cover almost every aspect of London life, from healthier food on your plate to re-using your rubbish; helping small businesses set up shop and ensuring vulnerable people have warm homes and access to support.

Past London Leaders have included designer Wayne Hemingway and chef Arthur Potts-Dawson, who used his time as a London Leader to plan the beginnings of the “People’s Supermarket,” now the subject of a Channel 4 documentary. Williams will be organising a series of music events in the run up to 2012 to showcase new talent and promote sustainability as an aspirational, positive way of life for Londoners.

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, said: “Our growing phalanx of London Leaders past and present embody a positive force for change, helping to improve quality of life in our great city. I warmly welcome this latest batch of inspirational individuals, brimming with clever ideas and the leadership skills to work for the good of London over this coming year and especially in the lead up to 2012.”

Williams added, “This is a huge opportunity to show Londoners that sustainability can be about fun and positive expression. I sometimes worry that we spend too much time on the doom and gloom – we should be concentrating on the benefits of sustainable living rather than seeing it as a chore. I can’t wait to start on my project and I look forward to collaborating with industry colleagues – if anyone has ideas they want to contribute then please get in touch with me through our website. It’s a huge honour for me and the rest of the team at Seventeen.”
