Christ Church Spitalfields

We went to a fantastic event last night thanks to an invitation from our friend Maria at Passion Organic. We began with a walking tour of the area around Spitalfields market, spanning the centuries in the space of a few streets. We then visited the venue itself, which has been restored to an incredibly high standard – from a state of total dereliction a few years ago. Finally, we enjoyed an amazing reception in the home of Charlie De Witt, a resident of Fournier Street adjacent to the church. Her home has been maintained wherever possible in its original state, and although it is now considerably more comfortable than it would have been when occupied by multiple families of poverty stricken weavers, the wooden floors and narrow staircases give you a flavour of life in a bygone age. It was a very entertaining evening and it was great to meet so many friends old and new. Of particular interest in terms of our events was Nic Clarke from Simply Flowers, who provided flowers for the event, and who specialises in providing ethically, fairtraded and organic flowers. We got caught in a few showers, but they didn’t put a dampener on a great evening.
