Fairtrade in Tower Hamlets

Went to a fantastic reception on Thursday evening aboard the SS Robin, the only working ship of its kind left in the world. The history of the ship is amazing and well worth investigating. The ship is used as a gallery and for a variety of events, but this one was of particular interest as it marked the achievement of the borough of Tower Hamlets in being awarded Fairtrade Status. We were treated to a feast of Fairtrade goodies while speakers explained the importance of encouraging buyers to source their produce from suppliers who treat their workers fairly. Among the guests were Barbara Crowther, Head of Communications at the Fairtrade Foundation who was also one of the judges on the first Green Awards – great to catch up with her again.
