Global Cool

Seventeen were lucky enough to be invited to the eco world’s hot ticket of the week / month on Tuesday – the official launch of Global Cool.

Global Cool is a campaign backed by a host of celebrities which calls for a billion people to reduce their carbon emissions by 1 tonne per year for the next 10 years. If this happens, Global Cool reckon that climate change can be reversed, so what are you waiting for?! Check out their website for loads of simple ways to reduce your emissions.

The launch took place at the hip Covent Garden Hotel. We spied Noel Gallagher hanging around outside but maybe he’s not green enough to warrant a ticket. Josh Hartnett, star of The Black Dahlia, Wicker Park and Lucky Number Slevin amongst other films, was a great spokesperson for eco issues, encouraging everyone that a few small changes could make a huge difference.

We also witnessed an historic moment for Doors fans – the first play of an un-released Jim Morrison track. Perry Farrell (ex Jane’s Addiction) has remade the track ‘Woman in the Window’ and introduced it from a live satellite link in LA.

We love the way that Global Cool are making it so un-cool not to be green. Instead of using the distressing images of world disasters that we’re all too familiar with, they use bright colours, engaging words, and a bunch of hip celebs to make environmental issues cool and aspirational. Definitely the way forward!
