Happy New Year!

A very happy new year to you!

We hope that 2006 treated you well, and that 2007 will be even better.

The past year has been action packed here at Seventeen Events, from planning the first Observer Ethical Awards at the start of the year through to the Green Awards at the end of November. If you made it along to one of our events we hope you had a good time and agree with us that making events sustainable doesn’t mean sacrificing on style and creativity.

As is traditional at the start of the year we have some resolutions to stick to during 2007. Ours include…

- We’ll sign up to the Flightpledge project to reduce the amount we travel by air. More details at www.flightpledge.org.uk.

- If we need to take a taxi we’ll use Green Tomato Cars whenever we can, as they use hybrid cars with lower emissions – www.greentomatocars.com.

- We won’t bother upgrading our mobile phones this year, as the ones we have are cool and we have no great desire to play MP3s loudly on the bus. We’ll clear out all the others we have in the back of our cupboards and recycle them using www.envirofone.com or www.fonebak.com.

- We’ll recycle all the office’s Christmas cards – several retailers have card recycling schemes including Boots and Ikea (who will also give you a £5 voucher if you return a tree bought from them to be recycled).

- We’ll be more scrupulous about bargains we pick up on the high street – after all, if a deal looks too good to be true the chances are someone is paying the price somewhere else along the supply chain, be it through poor pay and conditions or lack of care for the environment that the goods are produced in. With groovy retailers like Edun, Adili, Howies and Natural Collection, and style gurus like www.stylewillsaveus.com to keep us right, who needs sweat shops?

- Andrew can make a mean cup of tea, but he still hasn’t learned to use only as much water as he needs when boiling the kettle – come on man, sort it out!

- Finally, we aim to communicate more clearly the message that is at the heart of what Seventeen does – creating sustainable events without compromising on style or substance. As well as our blog (go to www.seventeenevents.co.uk and click on the “Hotel Seventeen” link) we have our MySpace site (www.myspace.com/seventeenevents) and our Flickr photo site (www.flickr.com/photos/seventeenevents/), and most importantly we hope to be out and about meeting people like you to tell you about ourselves in person. Hope to see you soon!

Good luck for 2007 from all of us at Seventeen.
