Hay Festival

We were delighted to work on the “Guardian Shed” at this year’s Hay Festival, which runs until next week. While we were up in beautiful Hay-On-Wye we also saw some amazing talks and presentations including a day of Greenprint lectures organised by our good friend Andy Fryers, the Greenprint Director. These included:

Chris Hope from Cambridge University with his innovative proposals for a climate change tax which would cut CO2 emissions as well as cutting the deficit;
Tristram Stuart, author of “Waste” who made a compelling argument around food waste and the environmental impact of growing food we then throw away;
Annie Leonard, author of “The Story of Stuff,” talking about mass consumption and sustainability;
Ed Milliband interviewing President Nasheed of the Maldives via video link. The Maldives have already had to evacuate 16 islands due to climate change – this is not a distant future event, it is happening now.

Going to Hay is a bit like taking your brain to the dry cleaners. You come back re-energised, humbled by the depth of knowledge and ingenuity in the world, and focussed on finding intelligent solutions to our problems. Plus we got to buy a gnome! Here are a few pics…
