London’s Living Room

I went to a great seminar on Friday afternoon organised by the North London Recycling Forum at the GLA building next to the Thames. Speakers included representatives from Ecover, Envirowise, London Remade, the Olympic Organising Committee and Ross Barry from the Britannia Wiper Company who gave a funny and thought provoking presentation on the reality of small businesses pitching for big contracts. Afterwards there was a reception on the top floor of the building, also known as London’s Living Room. There were amazing views over the rest of London, and we even saw a ship passing through the raised Tower Bridge. Rather than being purely thoeretical, the afternoon also produced a practical outcome – a rather fetching garland of pom poms which was created by Holly Berry of Reclaim Fashion. The pom poms were each tagged with a pledge from each attendee, and the garland was presented to John Duffy, the Mayor’s senior advisor on the environment, to pass on to Ken Livingstone. On behalf of Seventeen I pledged that we would sign up to the Mayor’s Green Procurement Code. A great way to spend a Friday afternoon (and a great potential venue for some of our other events!).
