Pakistan – time for action, not words

The devastating floods in Pakistan have created headlines around the world, but so far the response has been mixed from the international community. The sheer scale of the problem makes the disaster difficult to communicate, but urgent action is needed now to help millions of people. This BBC report has some more details, but the headline figures are:

Six million people need immediate assistance.
3.5 million children are in danger of contracting deadly diseases.
Two million people have been made homeless by the floods.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has described the disaster as the worst he has ever seen.

We talk a lot about sustainability and green issues, and how we can help to make the world a better place in the future. People in Pakistan need our help now – this is not a theoretical problem, or something that may or may not happen in the future. We need to respond now.
