Seventeen Events help Green Party launch election campaign.

Seventeen Events, the sustainable event management agency, has been supporting the Green Party in their bid to win a seat at the next General Election. Caroline Lucas, currently a Green MEP, is standing in the key marginal seat of Brighton Pavilion, and has a real chance of becoming the UK’s first ever Green Party MP.

The launch of Lucas’s bid to be elected was held on 10th September at Fabrica, a converted church in Brighton. Comedian Marcus Brigstocke hosted the event which featured a fundraising auction. The audience, including celebrity supporters such as actress Greta Scacchi, heard that a win for the Greens in Brighton would encourage a change in public perception of politics.

Seventeen co-ordinated some of the celebrity attendance at the launch, as well as co-ordinating room dressing and furnishings, ensuring these were of the highest ethical standards and from local suppliers. Seventeen staff also managed guests as they arrived and distributed goody bags at the end of the event.

Andrew Williams, Managing Director of Seventeen, explained that for the agency this was not a political decision, but was motivated by the hope that greater choice at the ballot box would promote greater sustainability in everyday life.

“We were delighted to be able to help the Green Party in the launch of their election campaign. Regardless of which political parties we might individually vote for, we see a move towards a more sustainable way of life in Britain as something that should be encouraged. There has been a growing shift towards smaller parties over the past few years, and we have been particularly concerned about the rise of the BNP. In June we publicly called for an event industry boycott of the BNP. Our support for the Green Party is the other side of this coin, and we feel that Caroline and her campaign will offer the people of Brighton a sustainable choice at the next election.”

Lots in the auction included a trip by Eurostar to Brussels for a guided tour of the European Parliament and the chance to learn how to make sustainable sushi.
