Seventeen Events managed the first ever event at the new Pestana Chelsea Bridge Hotel on Wednesday 10th February. The hotel, which opened officially for its first guests on Friday 12th February, is situated in the fashionable Chelsea Wharf development on Queenstown Road. The team at the hotel had worked tirelessly to prepare the venue for its first event, which two weeks previously had been accessible only in hard hats.

The event was run on behalf of Wandsworth Borough Council and showcased the winners of their annual Green and Heartbeat Awards. These reward local businesses and individuals who have promoted green business practice, healthy eating or championed local green causes. The awards were hosted by Oliver Rowe, chef at Konstam at the Prince Albert, a restaurant dedicated to local sourcing and seasonal eating. Oliver’s grandfather had served as Mayor of Wandsworth in the sixties.

As part of the sustainable initiatives introduced as part of the event, a healthy canapé menu was chosen in consultation with the chef at the Pestana Chelsea Bridge. There was also exhibition space for local green organisations to showcase their work, and the awards were lit and staged using a minimum of set all of which was reused.

Abhi Ranawat, Sales Manager at the Pestana Chelsea Bridge, commented “We were delighted to welcome Seventeen and the Wandsworth Green and Heartbeat Awards as our first event. We hope to host many more businesses in the local area and from further afield who are looking for a flexible event space in the Chelsea Bridge area.”

Wandsworth business spokesman Councillor James Cousins said “The Green and Heartbeat Awards are a great opportunity for us to reward local businesses and individuals who are adopting a more sustainable approach. We were pleased to be able to work with Seventeen and the Pestana Chelsea Bridge Hotel to produce a great night for all guests.”

Andrew Williams, Managing Director of Seventeen Events, added “This was a challenging event for us, the venue and our client, as we had to plan for the awards with very little access to the site. We were delighted with the way the venue accommodated our requests and we delivered an event which rewarded all the shortlisted participants and also met all of the requirements of our client at Wandsworth Council.”

The awards will launch again in autumn 2010.
