Sound Bites
Went to see Alex Kapranos reading from his new book Sound Bites at the Bloomsbury Theatre last night. You may remember his column in The Guardian relating his experiences of food while on tour with Franz Ferdinand – well this is an expanded anthology of those articles, including tales from his early childhood up to the band’s last world tour. Some very funny stories, but he also made some excellent points about the value of cooking at home, and also sourcing local ingredients and using local shops wherever possible – though he did confess to quite enjoy doing his shopping in the early hours of the morning in his nearby 24 hour Tesco! There were some really touching moments in the book, well worth checking out, though some of the more exotic dishes tasted may not be for the faint hearted (or the weak of stomach)…
