Stopped By The Police!

Whilst cycling to work this morning along my usual route I was flagged down by the police! But not because I was breaking the law you’ll be glad to hearĀ  – it was to put me in the drivers seat of a lorry! As part of the Cycle Safety Action Plan, TFL and the Met Police have been working together to make cyclists more aware of the dangers of lorries on the road. Positioned in the drivers seat of a stationary HGV, I got to experience the field of vision of a driver and was quite shocked with how large the blind spots are from the vehicle. The realisation will make me me a lot cautious about pulling up alongside or in front of lorries. I hope all cyclists get the chance to experience this quick exercise – it will make them safer when riding near these gigantic vehicles.
