Sunny tower in sunny Spain in chilly Switzerland!

Sat in a cosy coffee shop in Switzerland over the weekend I watched an intriguing news review on a very strange building located in Seville, Southern Spain; it was a huge concrete tower, which appeared to be emitting either intense light or very fine jets of water. As the news was in French I was none the wiser as to what the building was so I decided to investigate on my return! It turned out to be a solar thermal power plant and what appeared to be jets of water were in actual fact rays of sunlight! The rays are reflected by a field of 600 huge mirrors and are so intense that they illuminate water vapour and dust in the air making the whole place glow! The plant is run by Solucar and generates 11 MW of electricity, enough to power up to 6,000 homes. It looks amazing and is amazingly green; it doesn’t emit any greenhouse gases at all!
