The longest champagne bar in europe

On Monday evening I was lucky enough to attend the GQ’s launch of Europe’s longest champagne bar at the newly opened redeveloped St. Pancras International Station.

Given the sheer dimensions of the station – being an old warehouse space as well as a train station – it’s unlikely you’ll find another place as unusual and grand as this. Much of the beautiful original stonework has been uncovered and restored, and the low, colourful lighting really makes a feature of the incredible arched ceiling. And to have the longest champagne bar in Europe is pretty special…

The bar, run by Searcy’s, is over 90 metres long and boasts heated seating which overlooks the arrival of the Eurostar. The launch was a fantastic affair combining never-ending champagne with plentiful oysters, naturally, along with many other delicious bites throughout the evening. Apart from an awkward missing-the-glass moment, the launch was a successful showcase of a fantastic new space, which is hoped to be used for many more events in the future.

The only thing that may detract from this great set-up, despite heated seating around the bar and at the booths, is the temperature. In such a massive space with constant exposure to the great outdoors the place is never going to warm up much. So when visiting, just remember to take a warm coat!
