Turner Prize

We organised a soiree at Tate Britain last night for an exclusive preview of this year’s Turner Prize exhibition. About 300 avid art fans and Guardian readers showed up to ponder this year’s shortlist and learn a bit more about the work with tours from the exhibition curators.

The shortlist includes work from Rebecca Warren, Mark Titchner, Tomma Abts and (not ‘the’) Phil Collins. For what it’s worth my preference was for Tomma Abts’ intricate, layered abstract paintings, but the crowd pleaser, and tip to win, was Mark Titchner’s mix of paintings, banners and sculpture incorporating statements, lyrics and philosophies from contemporary culture.

The exhibition is now open at Tate Britain until 14 January. The winner will be announced on 4 December, so place your bets now! For more info visit http://www.tate.org.uk/britain/turnerprize/2006/
