Under the Thatch

I recently escaped the urban bustle of the city to spend a cosy weekend in a ‘Loveshack‘ log cabin in Wales and enjoyed:

- digging the groovy 1970s decor

- a wash and spin dry experience of horizontal rain and wind on a walk along the coast, blowing all those cobwebs away

- being befriended by a whole herd of cows who followed us across a field

- holing up for cosy evenings in the cabin with plenty of stew and red wine.

What a splendid weekend. I heartily recommend the holiday cottage company Under the Thatch – as well as this cabin, you can stay in lovingly restored Romany caravans, a converted railway carriage, a Black Mountain yurt or one of many wonderful traditional cottages. Winner of the Guardian and Observer Ethical Travel Award 2007, Under the Thatch are also passionate about running things in a caring way. Their profits are used for sensitively renovating and maintaining historic buildings, using environmentally friendly materials. They use only local tradesmen and staff, and benefit local communities through a pricing policy that brings holiday makers all year round.
