About BS8901
BS8901 is the British Standard for sustainable event management. It offers a framework for all events, from a car boot sale to the Olympics, and allows event managers, suppliers and venues to track their sustainability and benchmark their progress. It was launched by BSi in November 2007. The standard is a major step forward in making events in the UK more sustainable. It’s not a quick or easy rubber stamp, but neither should it be intimidating or stressful.
The standard has now begun the process of becoming an internationally recognised system, ISO20121. Seventeen Events are members of the UK mirror committee which feeds into this process. We have created an online tool, eventberry, for event organisers, venues and suppliers who wish to manage their compliance to BS8901.
